Instead, it uses a striker, which is a spring-loaded firing pin, to strike the primer or firing pin. When the trigger is pulled, it releases the striker to ignite the primer and fire the round. Many modern semi-automatic pistols use striker-fired mechanisms.

4. Hammer-Fired: In a hammer-fired firing mechanism, the firearm has an exposed hammer that is cocked manually or by the action of the trigger. When the trigger is pulled, it releases the hammer to strike the firing pin or primer. Hammer-fired mechanisms are commonly found in both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

5. Bolt-Action: In a bolt-action firing mechanism, the shooter manually operates a bolt to chamber a round, cock the firing pin, and lock the bolt in place. When the trigger is pulled, it releases the firing pin to strike the primer and fire the round. Bolt-action mechanisms are commonly found in rifles.
