INC 60421 Ballistics Drive

A differential mechanical device which receives angular motion from a parallelogram linkage attached to a gun trunnion. It receives superelevation data from a COMPUTER, BALLISTICS and transmits the angular value received from the gun, plus superelevation data to a gunner's periscope, thereby compensating for the ballistics of the projectile. It also provides synchronization to the RANGE FINDER, FIRE CONTROL. It may include a temperature compensating linkage.

Additional Information for Ballistics Drive Additional Information for Ballistics Drive

Ballistics Drive refers to a type of propulsion system used in firearms and artillery. It is a mechanism that provides the force necessary to propel a projectile, such as a bullet or a shell, out of a barrel and towards a target.

In firearms, the Ballistics Drive typically consists of a combination of gunpowder or other propellant, a firing pin or striker, and a cartridge or shell casing. When the trigger is pulled, the firing pin strikes the primer in the cartridge, igniting the propellant. The resulting explosion creates high-pressure gases that propel the bullet out of the barrel.

In artillery, the Ballistics Drive is more complex and can vary depending on the type of artillery piece. It usually involves a combination of a propellant charge, a primer, and a firing mechanism. The propellant charge is ignited by the primer, generating a large amount of gas pressure that propels the shell out of the barrel.

The Ballistics Drive is a crucial component in determining the range, accuracy, and velocity of a projectile. It is designed to provide the necessary force to overcome air resistance and other factors that may affect the trajectory of the projectile.

It is important to note that the term "Ballistics Drive" is not commonly used in everyday language. It is more commonly referred to as the propulsion system or firing mechanism in firearms and artillery.
