INC 27851 Close Tolerance Bolt

An externally threaded fastener whose unthreaded portion is of a specified grip length, plated or unplated, and is machined to a tolerance of one thousandth (0.001) of an inch (0.025 mm) or less of a specific diameter for items one inch (25 mm) or less in diameter. Items over one inch (25 mm) in diameter shall have a tolerance of fifteen ten-thousandths (0.0015) of an inch (0.038 mm) or less. The nominal major diameter of the threads shall be at least one thousandth (0.001) of an inch (0.025 mm) below the minimum shank diameter, but not below the minimum major diameter for applicable class of fit, as shown in the Screw Thread Standards, FED STD H28 and/or other nationally recognized standards. The head is not designed to be held or driven with an inserted driver, nor is it designed for rotation by the thumb and fingers. A locking feature may be incorporated in the design of the head or threads. For items having close tolerance, and fabricated from material having 160,000 pounds per square inch (1100 megapascals) minimum tensile strength, see BOLT, SHEAR. For items fabricated from material having less than 160,000 pounds per square inch (1100 megapascals) minimum tensile strength and not having a close tolerance, see BOLT, MACHINE.

Additional Information for Close Tolerance Bolt Additional Information for Close Tolerance Bolt

Close tolerance bolts are a type of bolt that is manufactured to very precise specifications. These bolts are designed to have a tight fit and provide accurate and consistent performance. They are commonly used in applications where precision and reliability are critical, such as in machinery, equipment, and automotive industries.

In the supply class Bolts, close tolerance bolts are categorized as a specific type of bolt that meets these stringent requirements. They are typically made from high-quality materials, such as stainless steel or alloy steel, to ensure strength and durability.

Close tolerance bolts are often used in situations where there is limited space or where a secure and precise fit is necessary. They are designed to have a smaller tolerance range compared to standard bolts, which means they have a tighter fit and less room for error.

In the supply group Hardware And Abrasives, close tolerance bolts are included as part of the hardware category. This group encompasses various types of hardware products, including bolts, screws, nuts, washers, and other fasteners. The addition of the "Abrasives" category suggests that this supply group may also include abrasive materials or tools used for grinding, polishing, or cutting.

Overall, close tolerance bolts are a specialized type of bolt that offers precise and reliable performance. They are commonly found in the Bolts supply class within the Hardware And Abrasives supply group.
