Compressor Piston

A compressor piston is a component of a compressor that is responsible for compressing air or gas. It is a cylindrical or disc-shaped part that moves back and forth within a cylinder or chamber. The piston is connected to a crankshaft or connecting rod, which converts the linear motion of the piston into rotational motion.

When the piston moves downward, it creates a vacuum in the cylinder, drawing in air or gas. As the piston moves upward, it compresses the air or gas, increasing its pressure. This compressed air or gas can then be used for various applications, such as powering pneumatic tools, operating machinery, or providing air conditioning.

Compressor pistons are typically made of durable materials such as cast iron or aluminum alloy to withstand the high pressures and temperatures generated during compression. They are designed to have tight seals with the cylinder walls to prevent leakage and ensure efficient compression.

In some compressors, multiple pistons are used in a single cylinder, arranged in a configuration known as a piston compressor. This allows for higher compression ratios and greater efficiency. Other types of compressors, such as rotary screw compressors or centrifugal compressors, may use different mechanisms for compression and may not have traditional pistons.
