A brake consisting essentially of the following: a. A brake anchor bracket, also called a carrier assembly, which is the basic unit of the brake. It is designed to be attached to the torque flange of the axle and is also the part upon which the other components of the brake are assembled. b. A floating hydraulically actuated annular piston, or an equivalent mechanical device, used for applying braking pressure. c. Metallic disks keyed to rotate with the wheel alternated with nonrotating disks keyed to the anchor bracket. See also BRAKE, SEGMENTED ROTOR.

Multiple disk brakes, also known as multi-disc brakes, are a type of braking system commonly used in vehicles and machinery. They consist of multiple brake discs, also called rotors, that are mounted on a rotating shaft or axle. These brake discs are sandwiched between stationary brake pads, which are pressed against the discs to create friction and slow down or stop the rotation of the shaft.

The main advantage of multiple disk brakes is their ability to provide high braking torque and dissipate heat effectively. By having multiple brake discs, the braking force is distributed across a larger surface area, allowing for better heat dissipation and reducing the risk of brake fade. This is particularly important in applications that require frequent or heavy braking, such as high-performance vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and industrial machinery.

Multiple disk brakes can be found in various configurations, including inboard and outboard designs. In inboard designs, the brake discs are located inside the vehicle's drivetrain, close to the differential or transmission. This configuration allows for a more compact and lightweight design, but it may require additional components such as drive shafts or axles. Outboard designs, on the other hand, have the brake discs mounted on the outside of the drivetrain, making them more accessible for maintenance and replacement.

Overall, multiple disk brakes offer improved braking performance, durability, and reliability compared to other types of braking systems. They are widely used in a range of applications where efficient and effective braking is essential for safety and performance.
