A hand manipulated device which includes a vertically mounted stick or column which can be moved in a backward&#59; a forward&#59; a sideway&#59; and up or down&#59; and/or a rotary direction. The movement of the stick or column generates a signal which may be used to move a cursor and/or tracking symbol on the face of a display device such as cathode ray tube&#59; to input data into an electronic system&#59; and/or control operation of a system.
