An item made of tempered steel, usually strip of leaf in shape, 12 inches (304.8 mm) or less in length, ground to and normally marked with its specific thickness. The blade may have a hole in one end, which allows for insertion in a thickness gage used either singly or with a readily attachable handle for checking or setting valve tappets, piston clearance, ring gear and pinion play, guided missile antenna radome and guided missile test stand cradle clearance, and the like.
