Electrical and Electronic Equipment Components

NATO Supply Group (NSG) 59 has superseded the US Federal Supply Group (FSG) 59 for NSNs, encompassing the same broad range of electrical and electronic equipment components. This includes:

1. Passive Components:

• Resistors
• Capacitors
• Inductors
• Filters
• Transformers

2. Active Components:

• Integrated circuits (ICs)
• Discrete semiconductors
• Optoelectronic devices
• Sensors and transducers

3. Hardware and Accessories:

• Mounting hardware
• Connectors
• Wire and cable
• Switches and relays
• Heatsinks and fans

4. Other Components:

• Batteries
• Fuses
• Circuit breakers
• Antennas

Management:

NSG 59 is managed by the NATO Standardization Agency (NSA) and is used by all NATO member countries including the USA to categorize and identify electrical and electronic components and assemblies. This standardization provides several benefits:

• Interoperability: Enables the use of standardized components in NATO equipment and systems, regardless of the country of origin.
• Procurement: Simplifies the procurement process for NATO member countries by providing a common reference system for component specifications.
• Logistics: Streamlines the logistics of supply and maintenance for NATO forces.

Relationship with FSG 59:

NSG 59 replaced FSG 59 when NATO adopted the NSN codification system in 1956, adopting the same structure and classification system. This facilitates collaboration between NATO (and some non-NATO) countries in the procurement and logistics of electrical and electronic equipment components.
