A derrick consisting of a spar, mast, or A-frame set on end and usually supported at the bottom by two horizontal spars or sills, with inclined beams running from end of sills to mast to form a triangle. A boom is fastened to the lower end of the mast or of the sills. The boom is so arranged that it may be raised or lowered at different angles or swung horizontally.
