NATO Supply Group (NSG) 28, also known as Federal Supply Group (FSG) 28 in the US, is a standardized classification system for engines, turbines, and their components. It categorizes a wide range of power sources used in various applications, not just in the aerospace industry:

• Aircraft: Jet engines, turboprop engines, piston engines, etc.
• Land vehicles: Car engines, truck engines, and other internal combustion engines.
• Marine vessels: Ship engines, boat engines, etc.
• Industrial applications: Power generators, turbines for oil and gas production, and other industrial machinery.

Breakdown of NSG 28:

NSG 28 is further divided into various classes, each encompassing specific types of engines and components:

• Gasoline Reciprocating Engines: These are internal combustion engines that use gasoline as fuel and a piston-cylinder mechanism to generate power. They are further categorized based on whether they are used in aircraft or not.
• Diesel Engines: Similar to gasoline engines but use diesel fuel for combustion and are known for their efficiency and durability.
• Steam Engines: Reciprocating engines that use steam pressure to drive a piston and generate power, historically used in locomotives and ships.
• Steam Turbines: Rotary engines that use steam pressure to spin a shaft and generate power, used in power generation and some marine applications.
• Water Turbines and Water Wheels: Utilize the force of moving water to generate power, commonly used in hydroelectric plants.
