TM 9-2350-273-BD FUEL SYSTEM SUPPLY SECTION II. Fuel Storage Systems. 4-4. General. Fuel is stored in enclosed aluminum containers. Fuel tanks are susceptible to contamination from dirt, water or other impurities. The fuel tanks are susceptible to corrosion which may result in leaks. Purging a contaminated fuel system and repairing leaks are the prime BDAR solutions. The tank is particularly susceptible to cracks. &5. FUEL TANK SUBSTITUTE General Information Fuel tank is damaged beyond immediate repair, a temporary tank may be used. Any suitable container, such as a 5-gallon gas or oil can, a 55 gallon drum, etc, can be secured to the outside of the vehicle in a position above the engine. Limitations: Turret traversing will be limited. Frequent refueling required. Personnel/Required: 2 soldiers 1 to 1-1/2 hours Materials/Tools: Rubber fuel line Wood blocks Rope or straps Procedural Steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Secure container on outside of tank using wood blocks and rope. Obtain fuel line or hose and secure it to the container. Gain access to the engine mechanical fuel pumps. Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel inlet connector as shown. Connect the fuel line from the container to the fuel inlet connection. Fill the container with fuel and purge the air from the fuel line, tighten connection. 4-4
