TM 9-2815-210-34-2-2 FRAME 18 NOTE In machine shop, do this frame only if cylinder head is tagged for resurfacing. If cylinder head is not tagged, go to frame 19. No more than a total of 0.005 inch can be machined off gasket surface of cylinder head (1). If cylinder head has been resurfaced before, amount of metal machined off is stamped or etched on front of cylinder head about 1/2 inch from gasket surface. 1. 2. 3. GO In machine shop, resurface cylinder head (1) until no scratch or gouge is deeper than 0.001 inch. Resurface cylinder head until it is not out-of-flat lengthwise by more than 0.005 inch or out-of-flat crosswise by more than 0.003 inch. If more than a total of 0.005 inch must be machined off to do this, get a new cylinder head. NOTE If old cylinder head (1) can be resurfaced without machining off more than a total of 0.005 inch, do step 2. In machine shop, add amount of metal just machined off cylinder head (1) to amount machined off before, and stamp or etch total on front of cylinder head about 1/2 inch from gasket surface. Measure thickness of cylinder head (1) from gasket surface to bottom of valve spring counterbores (2). If thickness is less than 3.365 inches, get a new cylinder head. TO FRAME 19 4-229
