TM 9-2815-210-34-2-2 e. Inspection and Repair of Camshaft and Related Camshaft Parts. CAUTION It is easy to damage the equipment if you do not know what you are doing. Do not try to do this task unless you are experienced at it, or you have an experienced person with you. FRAME 1 1. Using strong light and magnifying glass, check that camshaft (1) has no cracks. If camshaft is cracked, throw it away and get a new one. 2. Check that camshaft lobes (2) and bearing surfaces (3) are not worn, scuffed or scored. If camshaft lobes or bearing surfaces are badly worn, scuffed or scored, throw away camshaft (1) and get a new one. 3. Check that camshaft threads (4) are not stripped or damaged. If camshaft threads are stripped or damaged, throw away camshaft and get a new one. WARNING Dry cleaning solvent is flammable. Do not use near an open flame. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby when sol- vent is used. Use only in well-ventilated places. Fail- ure to do this may result in injury to personnel and damage to equipment. 4. Check that camshaft (1) has no small nicks, scratches or burrs. Fix small nicks, scratches, and burrs using crocus cloth and dry cleaning solvent, or a fine mill file. GO TO FRAME 2 4-104
