Install bearing cover (8) and shims (9) on carrier (12) with six new lockwashers (6) and screws (7). Tighten screws (7) 65-85 lb-ft (88-115 N.m). 67. Remove flange (4) from pinion end of shaft (13). 68. Perform step 69 if dirt deflectors (5) were removed. 69. Install two dirt deflectors (5) on two flanges (4). NOTE ✎ Apply light coat of GM grease to splines of flanges before installation. ● Flanges must be installed with four holes alined. ● Before tightening nuts, secure flanges in vise. ● Ensure cotter pin holes are alined before removing carrier from vise. 70. Install spacer (14) and two flanges (4) on carrier (12) with two washers (3) and nuts (1). Tighten nuts (1) 300-600 lb-ft (407-814 N.m). 71. Install two new cotter pins (2) in two nuts (1). 10-28
