Installation INITIAL SETUP APPLICABLE MODELS PERSONNEL REQUIRED All Two REFERENCES (TM) LO 9-2320-209-12-1 TOOLS General mechanic’s tool kit (Appendix B, Item 1) TM 9-2320-361-20 Torque wrench, l/2-in. dr. TM 9-2320-361-34P (Appendix B, Item 7) Lifting device EQUIPMENT CONDITION Chains . Axle shafts removed (TM 9-2320-361-20). MATERIALS/PARTS ● Axle assembly removed (para. 10-2 or 10-8). Gasket (Appendix F, Item 79) GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Lubricating oil, GO 80/90 (Appendix C, Item 11) Personnel must stand clear during lifting operations. CAUTION Work area should be clean, well-ventilated, and free from blowing dust and dirt. Damage to equipment could result if the area is not clean. NOTE I Have drainage container ready to catch oil. a. Removal 1. 2. 3. 4. Remove drain plug (12) from bottom of housing (6) and drain gear oil. Remove eight nuts (1) and washers (2) from eight studs (3). Loosen four remaining nuts (10) on studs (8). Remove screw (5) and washer (4) from carrier (7). 5. 6, 7. 8. 9. 10. WARNING All personnel must stand clear during lifting operations. A swinging or shifting load may cause injury or death to personnel. CAUTION When lifting differential carrier out of axle housing, use care not to damage mounting studs. NOTE Assistant will help with steps 5 through 7. Install chains on carrier (7) with washer (4) and screw (5). Attach lifting device on chains. Using lifting device, raise carrier (7) 1/2 in. (1.3 cm) out of housing (6) and remove four remaining nuts (10) and washers (9) from studs (8). Remove carrier (7) from housing (6). Remove gasket (11) from housing (6). Discard gasket (11). Lower carrier (7) to workbench and remove lifting device from chains. Remove screw (5), washer (4), and chains from carrier (7). 10-4
