It traps dust and debris from air draw through a filter element before it reaches the engine intake manifold. The major components of the air intake system are as follows: AIR CLEANER – Directs outside air through filter element. FILTER ELEMENT – Removes dirt and dust from the air. AIR CLEANER INDICATOR – Shows red when filter element needs servicing. AIR CLEANER OUTLET – Directs air from air cleaner to turbocharger. AIR CLEANER HOOD – Prevents rain and large objects from entering air intake system. E D C B A A B C D E
