STE/ICE-R No-Go Chain Test (Contd). BATTERY TESTS NG81 NOTE Test GO 1 (WP 0017 00), VTM Connections and Checkout, must be performed before running any other STE/ICE-R test. NOTE Each battery is best tested individually. During this test, fuel supply must be shutoff to keep engine from starting. INSTALL TEST PROBE CABLE W2 DO OFFSET TEST: • Connect test probe cable W2 to J4 on VTM. • Short red and black clip leads of W2 together. • Dial 89 into TEST SELECT switches. • Press and hold TEST until CAL message appears on display. • Release TEST. • Wait for offset value to appear on display. • Is offset value within limits of –6.8 to +6.8? 1 CONDITION CURRENT PROBE – DO OFFSET: • Clamp current probe around battery cable that connects the vehicle batteries in series. • Point arrow on current probe toward the negative post as shown on the next page. • Press TEST. • Attempt to crank engine for several cycles. • Is number displayed greater than 9.6 volts? 2 • Connect red clip lead of cable W2 to positive post of battery being tested. • Connect black clip lead of cable W2 to negative post of battery being tested. • Proceed to the next page. NO YES NO YES TEST NO. TEST 77 79 89 90 BATTERY RESISTANCE BATTERY RESISTANCE CHANGE 0–45 VOLTS DC 1–1500 AMPS DC PROMPTING MESSAGE • STE/ICE-R is bad. Replace. NOTE See following page for note and hook up diagram. • Check battery electrolyte level. • Clean battery terminals. • Refer to Troubleshooting Index (WP 0009 00) to check battery specific gravity. • Charge battery, if necessary. • Retest. • If 9.6 volts or greater is present, go to step 3. If less, replace battery (WP 0127 00). TK MODE
