TM 9-2520-272-40 0071 REPLACE PACKING ASSEMBLY NOTE Shipping plug may or may not be installed, dependent upon origin of transmission. This opening is used for the throttle modulator, a vehicle part which is installed when the vehicle power pack is installed. 1. Remove bolt (Figure 1, Item 3) and bracket (Figure 1, Item 4). If present, remove metal shipping plug (Figure 1, Item 2). 2. Drive packing assembly (seal) (Figure 1, Item 1) from inside of top cover. Discard packing assembly (seal) (Figure 1, Item 1). 3. Using a 1/2 inch drive, 13/16 inch socket as a driver, drive against the identif cation numbers on new seal (Figure 1, Item 1). 4. Install new seal (Figure 1, Item 1) to a f rm seat against the shoulder in the bore. 5. Install shipping plug if present. 6. Install bolt (Figure 1, Item 3) and bracket (Figure 1, Item 4) over shipping plug (Figure 1, Item 2), if shipping plug is present. 7. Torque bolt (Figure 1, Item 3) to 156 to 180 lb-in.
