TM 9-2350-277-20-3 REPLACE BATTERIES AND RETAINERS (M577A3 AND M1068A3 ONLY) — Continued 0347 00 CLEANING CLEANING AND INSPECTION WARNING Battery posts and cables touched by metal objects can short circuit and burn you. Do not wear jewelry, necklaces, or watches when working on the electrical system. Keep tools away from posts, wires, and terminals. 1. Clean battery with nonmetallic brush dipped in mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water. After foaming stops, flush battery with clean water. Dry with clean cloth. 2. Clean retainers and parts by soaking in mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water. Dry parts and apply coating listed in order of preference. 3. See TM 9-6140-200-14 to service batteries. INSTALLATION WARNING Battery is heavy and can cause back injury if handled improperly. Be sure to have helper assist you to remove and replace battery. Battery weighs about 75 lb (34 kg). C A U T I O N Place batteries with positive (+) and negative (-) terminals as shown in diagram below. Damage to components will occur if batteries are hooked up wrong. 1.
