SECTION I. General 7-1. General. The M113 Family of Vehicles (FOV) power train delivers power from the engine through a transfer case to an automatic, three speed forward, one speed reverse transmission. The transfer assembly has an in/out drive plate connection to disengage the transmission. The transmission delivers power to a control differential which produces the steering control and delivers power to the right and left final drives. Steering is provided by application of brake shoes internal to the control differential. A pivot steer capability is provided through two master cylinders and disk brake calipers mounted external to the control differential. 7-2. Assessment Procedure. a. Pre-conditions: Vehicle brakes should be in working condition. The vehicle engine must run to assess the powertrain using this procedure.
