TM 9-2350-247-20-2 ADJUST STEERING CONTROLS (M548A1) — Continued 0367 00 NOTE Improperly adjusted brake locking pawls in left and right steering levers can cause the steering levers to momentarily lock during carrier operation. This can cause loss of carrier control. To overcome this, clearance between pawl and brake quadrant must be properly adjusted. Sides of quadrant teeth must be inspected for protrusions. To correct this, do the following: a. Unlock left steering lever (1) and right steering lever (2). b. Remove two return springs (8) from hull brackets. c. Remove two cotter pins (9) and shoulder pins (10) securing steering control rod clevises (11) to actuator arm levers (12). Discard cotter pins. d. Remove two screws (13) and lock nuts (14) securing steering lever quadrant (3) and steering lever quadrant (4) and stops (15) to bracket (16). Remove quadrants and stops. Discard lock nuts. e. Check both sides of the quadrant teeth (17) for protrusions. If tips of teeth protrude to the side, grind excess metal off to form a slight taper. 0367 00-4
