TM 9-2350-247-20-2 REPLACE STARTER (M548A3) — Continued 0254 00 CLEANING 1. Use a wire brush to remove any corrosion from terminal ends. 2. Inspect electrical leads for cracks through the insulation and damage to the terminals. 3. Apply insulating compound to all terminals and connectors. INSTALLATION NOTE Check that gasket is in place. Gasket is necessary to keep water out of starter. 1. Install new gasket (1) on starter (2). 2. Install starter (2) on engine. Secure with three new lock washers (3) and bolts (4). Tighten bolts to 95-105 lb-ft (129-142 N•m) torque. Have helper assist. 3. Install ground lead (5), circuit 7 lead (6), new lock washer (7), and nut (8) on starter ground terminal (9). 4. Install circuit 74B lead (10), new lock washer (11) and nut (12) on switch terminal (13) of solenoid (14). 5. Install circuit 74C lead (15), circuit 6 lead (16), new lock washer (17) and nut (18) on battery terminal (19) of solenoid (14). FOLLOW-THROUGH STEPS 1. Install hull bottom access cover (WP 0383 00). 2. Connect both battery negative leads (WP 0292 00). 3. Lower center seat (see your -10). END OF TASK 0254 00-3/4 blank
