TM 9-2350-311-34-2 1-14 LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR COMPONENTS This section covers the description of the M185 or M284 155mm cannon assembly, M178 or M182 mount, equilibrated elevating mechanism assembly, gunner’s and assistant gunner’s control assemblies, rammer assembly, traversing mech- anism, power pack assembly, and related cab subassemblies. The description furnished below is supplemental to informa- tion given in TM 9-2350-311-10 and TM 9-2350-311-20-2. NOTE The M185 cannon assembly and the M178 mount together are applied to M109A2/M109A3/M109A4 howitzers. The M284 cannon assembly and the M182 mount together are applied to the M109A5 howitzer. Their function and maintenance are similar; however, the M109A5 howitzer configuration is designed to accommodate a larger charge. 1-10
