Assembly INITIAL SETUP Applicabie Configuration Lockwashers (2) (item 158, Appx E) M109A4/M109A5 howitzers Preformed packings (2) (item 105, Appx Tools Retaining rings (2) (item 22, Appx E) Artillery and turret mechanic’s tool kit Personnel Required (SC 5180-95-CL-A12) 2 Materials/Parts Equipment Condition Hydraulic fluid (item 22, Appx B) Body assembly removed (para 6-1) E) a. Disassembly 1 Remove retaining ring (1), filter cap (2), and preformed packing (3) at top end of body assembly (4). Discard retaining ring and preformed packing. 2 Remove retaining ring (5) at pump end of body assembly (4) and discard. 3 Remove head and ball check valve group (6) from filter body (7). 4 Remove preformed packing (8) from fluid filter head (9) and discard. 5 Remove two cap screws (10), two Iockwashers (11), and fluid restrictor (12) from fluid filter head (9). Discard lockwashers. 6 Remove helical compression spring (13), power pack guide (14), and bearing ball (15) from fluid filter head (9). b. Inspection 1 Inspect filter body (7) and replace body assembly (4) if distorted or cracked. 2 Inspect helical compression spring (13) and replace if distorted, cracked, scratched, or damaged. 3 Inspect fluid filter head (9) and replace if cracked, distorted, or damaged. 6-22
