Measure outside diameter of carrier housing shaft (8) and replace if less than 4.300 inches (10.922 cm). 2 Inspect left and right sleeve bushings (9 and 10). Replace if they show excessive wear. Measure inside di- ameter of left and right sleeve bushings and replace if greater than 0.8185 inch (20.7899 mm). 3 Measure backlash of sector gear (11) and gear rack (12). Replace sector gear and gear rack if backlash is greater than 0.010 inch (0.254 mm). 4 Inspect and measure detent plunger (13). Replace if deformed more than 1/32 inch (0.8 mm). 5-44
