TRANSMISSION/TRANSFER CASE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL This taskcovers: Removal INITIAL SETUP: TOOIS EquipmentCondition General mechanic’s tool kit: l Engine access cover removed (para. 10-22). automotive (Appendix B, Item 1) l Muffler support bracket removed (para. 3-55). Materials/Parts l Rear propeller shaft removed (para 6-4). l Sealed upper converter housing cover removed Engine/transmission support sling (para. 5-12). (Appendix D, Figs. 81 through 97) (Optional) l ‘IYansmission oil dipstick removed (para. 5-5). Personnel Required l Transmission fluid drained (para. 5-2). l Front propeller sha& removed (para. 6-2). One mechanic One assistant General SafetyInstructions ManualReferences TM 9-2320-387-24P l Allow transmission/transfer case to cool before performing this task. l Torque converter and transmission must be removed as an assembly and transmission must be level. l Do not use hands to free transmission/transfer case assembly of hangups or snags. Maintenance Level Direct support WARNING Allow transmission/transfer case to cool before performing this task. Failure to do this may cause injury. CAUTION Cover or plug all open lines and connections immediately after disconnection to prevent contamination. Remove all covers or plugs prior to connection. 1. Raise and support rear of vehicle (para. 8-2). NOTE l Have drainage container ready to catch fluid. l Tag hoses for installation. 2. Loosen two hose clamps (2) and disconnect hoses (1) from cooler lines (3). 3. Remove cotter pin (4), washer (51, and shift rod and trunnion (8) from relay lever (6). Discard cotter pin (4). 4. Remove cotter pin (9) and washer (11) from transfer case shift rod (12). Disconnect shift rod (12) from transfer case (10). Discard cotter pin (91. 19-2
