TM 9-2320-280-20-1 ARMORED AMBULANCES: M996, M996A1, M997, M997A1, AND M997A2 PURPOSE: These models are used to transport patients with armor protection for crew and patients. The M996 and M996A1 are reducible in height for CH47 helicopter transport. The M997, M997A1, and M997A2 have air conditioning for patient comfort. For operation in an NBC environment, the M997, M997A1, and M997A2 is equipped with a Gas-Particulate Filter Unit (GPFU) with heaters capable of supporting up to seven personnel equipped with either M25 series protective masks or M13 series patient protective masks. 1-12
