TM 9-2320-280-10 Change 1 2-121 2-21. TAILGATE OPERATION a. Lowering Tailgate. WARNING Do not use tow pintle as a step when entering or exiting vehicle cargo area. Failure to do so may result in injury to personnel or damage to equipment. CAUTION The tailgate should not be lowered further than the length of tailgate chains. Tailgate chains should always be used to support tailgate when open. Do not allow tailgate to slam against lifting shackles. Damage to equipment may occur. (1) Remove two tailgate chain hooks (6) securing tailgate (7) to rear of vehicle body. (2) Lower tailgate (7) and secure with two tailgate chain hooks (6). b. Raising Tailgate. (1) Raise tailgate (7). (2) Secure tailgate (7) to rear of vehicle body with two tailgate chain hooks (6).
