Airdropped loads are derigged as dictated by the enemy threat on the drop zone and as soon as possible after landing. Derigging must be done rapidly to prevent loss or pilferage of supplies by enemy forces and to minimize damage to aerial delivery equipment. Upon recovery of aerial delivery equipment, units must synchronize retrograde support operations and establish return of priority items such as JPADS, parachutes, aerial delivery platforms, and other airdrop-related equipment in accordance with theater guidance.
