A mortar may be identified from the tail fins (see figures B-9 on this page, and figures B-10 on page B-10, and B-11 on page B-11). Often, tail fins are found in the fuze tunnel of the crater. A mortar that is not fin- stabilized may be identified from the pieces of the projectile on which the rifling is imprinted.
