Four rounds are caused to burst simultaneously in a diamond pattern. This pattern illuminates an area with practically no shadows or dark spots. To obtain this pattern, the observer calls for ILLUMINATION RANGE AND LATERAL SPREAD. The pattern of the bursts combines both a range spread and a lateral spread. Figure 6-9. In the call for fire, specify ILLUMINATION as the type of projectile and give the appropriate range or lateral spread as the distribution.
