TM 9-2320-366-34-3 16-5. M1084/M1086 BOOM MID SECTION AND TELESCOPIC CYLINDER REPLACEMENT/ADJUSTMENT (CONT) d. Adjustment. NOTE · Nominal thickness of spacer block is 3/8 in. (0.9 cm). Nominal thickness of shims is 1/16 in. (0.15 cm). · Add shims as required to achieve a clearance of 1/16 - 1/8 in. (0.15 - 0.3 cm) between spacer block and boom fly section. (1) Position shim(s) (1), spacer block (2) and two screws (3) on outer end of boom base section (4). (2) Tighten screws (3) to 30-32 lb-ft (41-44 N·m). (3) Connect batteries (TM 9-2320-366-20-3). (4) Start engine (TM 9-2320-366-10-1). NOTE Step (5) requires the aid of an assistant. (5) Operate crane to extend and retract boom mid section. (6) Hold machinists rule at outer end of boom base section (4) and observe reading on machinists rule to determine high spot of boom mid section (5). (7) Operate crane to place high spot of boom mid section (5) directly under outer end of boom base section (4). (8) Repeat Steps (1) and (2) to obtain required shim thickness. e. Follow-On Maintenance. (1) Install boom fly section (para 16-4). (2) Perform crane load test (para 16-31). (3) Shutdown engine (TM 9-2320-366-10-1). End of Task. 16-34
