TM 9-2815-220-24 ENGINE CRANKS TOO SLOW 0007 00 THIS WORK PACKAGE COVERS: Troubleshooting Table and Diagnostic Tests INITIAL SETUP: Tools: General mechanic’s tool kit (item 121, WP 0176) Personnel Required Track Vehicle Repairer (2) 63H10 Equipment Conditions: Engine installed in vehicle or ground hop. MALFUNCTION 1: Cranking speed too slow for starting: (below 90 rpm). PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION a. Batteries partially discharged. (1) Check battery condition: PROCEDURE OBSERVATION ANALYSIS Indicator (Battery/Generator) Preliminary Check Indicator needle at extreme left (no voltage indicated). Indicator satisfactory. Master switch “OFF”. Indicator needle at any position other than extreme left. Indicator defective. Indicator needle moves into “yellow” area (indicating battery voltage) with panel lights on. Indicator satisfactory. Turn master switch “ON”. Indicator needle does not move from extreme left position with panel lights on. Indicator defective. Battery Preliminary Check Indicator needle in “yellow” area. Battery charge satisfactory. Indicator needle in left “red” area. Batteries discharged. Indicator needle in “green” area. Batteries overcharged. Turn master switch “ON”. Indicator needle at extreme left position. Batteries dead or cables disconnected or corroded. PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION b. Incorrect seasonal grade of oil. Applies in cold weather. (1) Drain and refill with proper oil (refer to pertinent vehicle lubrication order). END OF WORK PACKAGE WP 0007 00-1 (2 blank)
