NMWR 9-2815-220 GENERAL MAINTENANCE, OVERHAUL, AND REPAIR PROCEDURES—Continued 0005 00 INSPECTION OF COMPONENTS 1. Scope. This paragraph contains general inspection procedures in order to eliminate repetition of general instruction throughout the NMWR. 2. Overhaul Inspection Procedures. a. Overhaul Inspection Procedures (OIPs) will supplement narrative inspection requirements. Only minimum inspection requirements are listed on OIPs and narrative consideration must be given to any damage discovered other than that listed. If the damage is minor and can be repaired by using common accepted mechanical practices, make the necessary repairs as described in the paragraphs for that component. Any nonrepairable damage found that would prevent the item from performing its intended purpose will be cause for rejection even though the item meets all inspection requirements of the OIP or narrative. All items that do not meet the requirements of OIPs or the serviceability requirements outlined in the overhaul portion of this NMWR must be repaired or replaced. b. An OIP has been prepared for each part or component with specified wear limits, specified performance requirements, or fatigue characteristics which may cause part failure. Every part for which an OIP has been written will be subjected to the serviceability inspection standard (item 1 on every OIP). (1) Requirement to perform measurements are mandatory. (2) Every effort has been made to limit liquid penetrant or magnetic particle inspection requirements only to those parts or components to which such inspection is critical. Therefore, liquid penetrant and magenetic particle inspection will be performed in all instances required by OIP. 3. Replacement of Parts. a. Unserviceable assemblies that are beyond repair will be broken down into item of issue, and serviceable parts will be returned to stock. Parts or assemblies which cannot be repaired or reclaimed to the standards contained in this NMWR will be scrapped and new parts used to replace them. b. Gaskets, packings, seal rings, and seals will be replaced. c. If a required new part is not available, reconditioning of the old part should be considered. Such parts will be inspected carefully after reconditioning to determine their suitability and probable service life. d. New lockwire will be used on components or assemblies when lockwire is required. 4. Ball and Roller Bearings. Bearings are MRPs but may be cleaned and re-lubricated if contaminated during handling. Refer to TM 9-214 for cleaning and lubrication of bearings. 5. Welding. Refer to TC 9-237 for welding instructions and materials. 6. Surface protection. a. Clean and repaint all surfaces on which paint has deteriorated and become damaged (TM 43-0139). b. Do not paint working parts inside engine assembly. c. When repainting surfaces of individual parts during repair, the existing paint will be renewed. d. Coat all bearings and contact surfaces with OE-HDO-10 (MIL-PRF-2104G) engine oil. 0005 00-22 Change 1
